DALLAS - Police said a man was fatally shot in an attempted robbery early Tuesday morning outside a Dallas nightclub.
Tommy Heads, 35, left Chocolate City, located in the 2300 block of S. Beckley Ave., with his girlfriend after the two became involved in an argument with one another inside the club at about 1:15 a.m, read a statement released by Sr. Cpl. Sherri Jeffrey, Dallas Police Department. As they were walking towards their vehicle, several men approached them. At least one of the men was armed, demanded money and shot Heads, the statement read.
Heads was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Investigators said the girlfriend wasn't harmed.
Heads was the father of two children, ages eight and 12.
"I really hope the people who killed him feel sorry now because now you know he had a family," Tyrairon Heads, 12.
He remembered the times he spent with his father tossing around a football.
"He'd try to spend a lot time with us," the young boy said.
His 8 year-old brother, Tejhawn Heads, cried as he talked about his father.
"He just feels like my favorite thing in my life," Tejhawn said. "In my whole entire life. My favorite person."
Their grandmother, Sheila Wynn, said the murder has left a void in the family.
"They're going to lose out just as much as we will as parents because they looked to him," Wynn said. "And he tried to teach them to do what's right."
Police are searching for at least two suspects in connection with the shooting. While the men were described as wearing dark clothing, few other details were released describing the suspects.
