FORT WORTH -- A robber was shot dead Tuesday after he tried to steal a man's phone who had  agreed to sell it to the him on Craigslist, according to police.

At about 1 p.m., the two men met outside a Metro PCS store in the 7400 block of Wichita Street. After a confrontation, both the suspect and victim were shot.

The robbery suspect, 20-year-old Desmond Paige, was killed.

Kim Kirkland, who came upon the scene after the shooting, didn't know Paige or what he allegedly did, but she knelt beside him as he died on the asphalt.

"I just let him know, 'Somebody's here with you; you're not by yourself,'" she said.

The other man was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and police said he was in good condition. It's not clear whether he was shot by Paige or if he accidentally shot himself. He has not been identified.

Witnesses said the intended victim had a concealed handgun license.

Police are investigating at least one other Craigslist robbery in the area.
