A Wylie High School teacher was arrested Wednesday afternoon on suspicion that she had an improper relationship with a student.
Kristin Sims, 33, was taken into custody at noon while working at the school. Sgt. Donna Valdepena, a police spokeswoman, said the department was notified that morning of the alleged offense and began investigating. The Collin County Child Advocacy Center aided police in the investigation.
Sims posted $25,000 bond and resigned her position as an English teacher. According to Valdepena, the investigation began at 7:30 a.m. They collected a 17-year-old boy's phone as well as the teacher's. She's been at Wylie High School for four years. Neighbors say she and her husband were undergoing marital problems.
"They're known for being the couple that yells at each other a lot," said neighbor Jessica Woodworth.
Wyle Independent School District spokesman Ian Halperin said the district is “extremely shocked and saddened by these allegations.” Details of the allegation have not been released, nor has the victim's age.
Below is the district’s full statement:
"We are extremely shocked and saddened by these allegations. Wylie ISD is cooperating fully with the investigation and we have taken all appropriate actions in accordance with the law and district policy. Mrs. Sims resigned her position with Wylie ISD and is no longer a district employee. As this is still on ongoing investigation, we cannot comment any further. Any other questions need to be directed to the Wyle Police Department."
