CARROLLTON -- A woman was killed and a man injured Sunday night after the railing on the third-floor balcony they were standing on gave way and they fell to the ground below.

At about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, police and fire-rescue were dispatched to The Mansions at Sunset Ridge apartments at 1440 Carrollton Parkway after the man and woman fell, according to Carrollton police spokesman Jon Stovall.

The man and woman, both 26 years old, were taken to Parkland Hospital. The female victim, identified as Alisha Wilhite of Mansfield, was pronounced dead.

There is no police investigation at this time, however code compliance is aware of the incident.

Apartment management confirmed a bracket that holds the railing in place somehow broke.
