PLANO — Plano firefighters battled a two-alarm apartment fire Sunday evening at the Saxony at Chase Oaks Apartments in the 300 block of Legacy Drive, just west of North Central Expressway.

Smoke was rising from the a three-story building with gaping holes in the roof at 5:50 p.m.

"It's in a smoldering phase right now," said Plano Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief Kelly Helm. "We're in a standby pattern right now trying to figure out what's going to be next."

He said units will go in to tackle hot spots inside the building.

Helm said the American Red Cross was helping about 13 residents who were displaced by the fire.
