An off-duty McKinney police officer died in a motorcycle crash in Frisco Monday.
John Libby, 38, was killed when his motorcycle hit a sport utility vehicle just before noon at the corner of Custer Road and Cotton Ridge Road South.
Several passersby — including an emergency room nurse on her way to work — stopped to help the stricken officer, who had been wearing a helmet. The nurse administered CPR until paramedics arrived, but it was too late.
According to police, the driver of the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee pulled out in front of Libby's cycle. Investigators said there was no suspicion of drug or alcohol use, and that no charges have been filed.
John Libby had been with the McKinney Police Department since 2007. Before that, online profiles show he was a police officer at two departments in New Jersey, where he grew up.
Many condolences were posted on Libby's Facebook page Monday night, many praising him as a good officer, friend, and father.
The McKinney Police Department said Libby had "honorably served the citizens of McKinney for nearly six faithful years. John's commitment to his family, community and fellow officers will be deeply missed."
They added that their thoughts an prayers are with the Libby family.
