COLLIN COUNTY — A second person has died after being struck by debris in a thunderstorm near Anna on Friday evening.
The roof of a barn about two miles northeast of Anna was blown off in high winds from the storm, hitting two people.
"It just pushed all of that debris — the walls out — so they were caught in the crossfire of all of that," said neighbor Relda Beall. "It was very disturbing, we were very sad about it."
A woman died Friday; her husband was injured and first taken to a McKinney hospital for treatment and then later airlifted to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, where he was pronounced dead on Saturday.
Neither victim has been publicly identified. Both were said to be in their 60s.
Neighbors said the couple had only recently purchased the property. They were planning to restore the barn and build a house on their new land.
The National Weather Service said Friday's storm likely packed winds of 45 mph or greater. The agency said the barn that was damaged was believed to be at least 60 years old.
