McKINNEY — Students on summer break returned to McKinney High School Saturday to mourn a former classmate.

Recent graduate Nicole Quincy died Friday on a road trip with a friend. Friends held a vigil in her honor on Saturday night.

Quincy was a rising basketball star who was set to start college in Kansas this fall. She and a friend were on their way home from the beach when her friend swerved in the road to avoid hitting an animal.

The car crashed into a tree.

"It's just a testimony to how great a person that she was, that all these people are here," said friend Destiny Dow. "To support her and her family... to be here as one and console each other."

Funeral arrangements for Nicole Quincy are pending. Friends said the driver of the car was in critical condition.
