COLLIN COUNTY — Two people were killed and a third was seriously hurt Sunday morning when two vehicles collided on a narrow bridge over Lake Lavon.

Investigators said a sport utility vehicle crossed the center line of the two-lane Lucas Road bridge and crashed head-on into a pickup truck around 9 a.m.

Helicopter ambulances were utilized to transport two of the victims, but the driver and a passenger in the pickup were killed; the driver of the SUV was hospitalized in critical condition.

The bridge, linking Lucas and Branch, was shut down for several hours so Department of Public Safety investigators could review the evidence. No names were released.

Just 24 hours earlier and about 18 miles north of this accident, another motorist was killed in a head-on crash on Highway 121 near Anna.
