PLANO -- A 72-year-old woman is recovering in her Plano home after falling off a horse and being rescued by a quick-thinking rider.

Last Saturday Alexa Borota saw something strange inside her stable -- a spooked horse fully saddled up with no rider in sight.

"He was loose in the stables running around," she said.

She knew what she had to do next. Relying on her instincts, she rode her horse a mile away to the popular trail head. About 45 minutes later she found the horse's 72-year-old rider on the ground in pain.

"When I found her, I thought she was dead," Borota said.

The city's parks and rec superintendent happened to walk by and stepped in to help, calling 911.

"The last thing I remember is holding on to him and trying to stop him," the woman told News 8.

She is banged up but expected to recover, thanks to Borota's quick thinking.
