Watauga Officer Involved Shooting
UPDATE 1/4: Watauga police said Saturday the man shot by police after assaulting two women Friday afternoon has died.
One of the attacked women has been released from the hospital, and the other, who is pregnant, remains hospitalized with wounds to internal organs however the baby is OK.
The attacker was the boyfriend of the pregnant woman, according to police.
WATAUGA –– A Watauga officer shot and critically wounded a man who was assaulting two women with a knife Friday afternoon, a police spokesman said.
Watauga police Sgt. Jason Babcock said officers were dispatched to the 6400 block of Patsy Lane just before 1 p.m. for an assault in progress. Babcock said the officer observed a man attacking two women in the front yard and the driveway of a home. The officer shot the man in the head, Babcock said.
The suspect was airlifted to an area hospital and has not been identified. The two women were also hospitalized. One of the women was released from the hospital Friday night. The condition of the second victim was not released.
According to police, one of the two women was the girlfriend of the suspect.
Neighbors who witnessed the incident described a horrible, bloody scene. Rachel Morris said she saw police fire at the man when he continued to stab one of the women. She said all involved were in their twenties.
"When the cop came, the guy actually stopped stabbing her and then, I don't know, he started stabbing the girl again and the cop shot him," Morris said. "I just heard a bang and he just fell."
She also reported hearing the man say he "should've left her for dead."
Babcock said the Texas Rangers are helping Watauga detectives investigate.
"It's unreal," Morris said. "I've never seen anything like that before."
