D/FW AIRPORT -- A group of passengers who arrived at D/FW International Airport from LAX missed the deadly scene at Terminal 3 by minutes.
"We took off about 15 minutes before everything went down," said passenger Todd Christensen.
They were away from the danger, sitting on Virgin America Flight 0807 on their way to North Texas. But they were still on edge.
"When I sat down, the woman next to me turned on the TV," Christensen said. "The headline was 'Shooting at LAX.' The whole plane was watching."
Matt Riley from Los Angeles came to Dallas with his wife to visit friends. He was saddened by the incident.
"I actually recognized one of the TSA employees who was coming out," Riley said. "I think the guy who was shot was the screener next to us."
At D/FW, we spotted airport officers checking areas near TSA checkpoints.
The incident delayed and cancelled some D/FW flights to and from LAX. Officials recommended passengers to check their flight's status before coming to the airport.
Some airlines, including American Airlines, have changed their travel policies, waiving change and cancellation fees for affected customers.
For those passengers who got out of LAX before the gunfire, they just are grateful to be in North Texas.
"It's unsettling," Riley said. "But, it shows you to embrace life and live it to the fullest."
