BEDFORD -- More than 50 family and friends gathered Thursday for a memorial in front of the apartment where a mother and son were killed the night before.
"You would never know the pain she went through," said Roxann Sanchez' coworker and friend Shawana Edd. "She would never let it show."
Sanchez and her son, Anthony Figueroa, 8, were found dead Wednesday in their apartment in Bedford.
"Her smile would light up a room, and her children were her life," Edd said.
The suspect, estranged boyfriend Cedric Ricks, was arrested overnight in Oklahoma.
In a warrant obtained by The Dallas Morning News, it states a family member related to the suspect called 911 saying Ricks had killed his "girlfriend and kids."
Police responded to the apartment to find two dead, one 12-year-old child severely hurt, and a baby, untouched.
The relative who called 911 told police she had spoken to Ricks just before 8 p.m. Wednesday. The relative told police Ricks admitted to the stabbings, and said he "couldn't take it anymore," that "nobody loves [him,]" and that he was "not going to jail."
Another arrest warrant obtained from a November 2012 incident also shows that the victim, Roxann Sanchez, and suspect had prior assault arrests.
In that November incident, Ricks was indicted on assault charges. The report reads "he knocked the mother of the child to the floor, choking her, and banging her head on the ground as she was holding the child."
The mother filed a protective order that lasted only 60 days and came up on January 15, close to three-and-a-half months before the mother and son were found dead.
