ROWLETT - A utility pole fire caused a massive backup as Interstate 30 was shut down in both directions at the Garland-Rowlett border Thursday morning.
The top of the pole, located on the service road of Dalrock Road, snapped off during the fire, leading to concern that the four high-voltage lines connected to the pole would break away. The lines cross over both eastbound and westbound lanes of Interstate 30.
The closures happened around 10 a.m. Thursday, and the lanes were re-opened nearly two hours later after crews were able to stabilize the pole.
