DALLAS –– The Dallas district of the Texas Department of Transportation made preliminary plans on Friday for potential wintry weather that could move into north Texas early on Sunday.

Workers spent the day pre-loading trucks with a salt/sand mixture that would be used to treat area highways if conditions become slick, said Ryan LaFontaine, TxDOT spokesperson.

LaFontaine said crews have been placed on standby to work on Sunday.

TxDOT plans to re-group on Saturday and could make firmer their plans to keep roads clear if freezing rain coats roads. Temperatures could plunge 40 degrees in a matter of hours Sunday.
