DENTON COUNTY — Two people were killed late Friday night after their pickup truck struck a tree and caught fire.
Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Lonny Haschel said the truck was headed westbound on Highway 407 about two miles west of Justin when the driver apparently failed to negotiate a curve.
The pickup left the roadway and hit a tree at 11:15 p.m. The truck bed wrapped around the tree, but the cab was propelled another 50 feet by the impact and caught fire.
The occupants — identified as 31-year-old Randall Logan of Justin and 29-year-old Kody Jasper of Haslet — were pronounced dead at the scene.
Trooper Haschel said the agency is still trying to identify the factors that led to the fatal crash.
