VENUS -  Two people riding a motorcycle were killed in a crash involving three vehicles, including a Venus Police Department SUV, Thursday night along northbound FM 157 near CR 501.

According to Sgt. Lonny Haschel, a Tahoe belonging to Venus police was headed northbound on FM 157 with its emergency lights on as police responded to a fire call at about 11:30 p.m.

The sergeant said a vehicle heading southbound slowed to yield to the Tahoe. However, the driver of a motorcycle carrying a passenger and traveling behind the southbound vehicle was unable to slow down in time.

Haschel said the motorcycle glanced off the vehicle, veered into the northbound lane and struck the Tahoe. The two motorcycle riders died from injuries sustained in the crash.

There were no other injuries reported and the crash is under investigation.
