Plane crash
MIDLOTHIAN — Federal officials will try to determine what caused a small plane to crash Friday night just after takeoff from Midway Regional Airport in Midlothian.
Both people on board were killed. Ellis County officials identified them as Bogdan Szajer, 64, of Fort Worth; and Lance Christian Dudley, 37, of Waxahachie.
The single-engine, two-seat aircraft crashed into a wooded area about four miles east of Midlothian just moments after an 8:15 p.m. departure.
Terry Williams, who owns the property where the plane went down, was the first person to the wreckage.
"I heard a plane running, and it's a weird sound, and we heard the crash," he said. "My son actually witnessed the plane coming out of the sky, and he told me ... 'Pop, I think it hit on our property.' And I got my truck and came down the road down there by the creek and the plane nosed down into the ground."
Williams said there was nothing he could do for the two people on board.
