WILLS POINT — Two small children drowned late Saturday afternoon when their electric riding toy plunged into a creek in Van Zandt County.

Wills Point Police Chief Scott Johnson said four-year-old Dakylie Hamilton and three-year-old Desean Hamilton were not being supervised as they were riding a battery-powered plastic Kawasaki all-terrain vehicle toy  about 100 yards from their home.

Johnson said the children apparently got too close to the creek and fell in.

When police arrived at the scene in the 200 block of Winnie Street around 5 p.m., the victims had already been pulled from the water. Johnson said they were taken by ambulance to Renaissance Hospital Terrell and then flown by helicopter to Children's Medical Center Dallas, but they could not be revived.

Johnson said the children have a single mom and were in the care of their grandmother at the time of the incident. He said Child Protective Services has been alerted because there are other children in the household.

An investigation is under way, but Johnson said this appears to have been a tragic accident.
