FORT WORTH — Dozens of inner-city teens got a chance Saturday to visit TCU’s campus and watch the Horned Frogs play their final regular-season home game.
Every year, Terrance Maiden, along with his twin brother Tim, lead dozens of youths on a tour of TCU. For many, it’s the first time these teens have stepped foot onto a college campus.
The Maiden brothers both attended TCU. After graduating in 2000, they started their Dallas-based foundation, Two-Wins, to help at-risk children.
About 125 middle and high school students from Fort Worth and Dallas were "Frogs for a Day," aimed at encouraging them to graduate from high school and attend college.
“The whole thing is to get inner-city kids, that haven't been exposed to the whole college campus experience, to get them on campus, go to football game, look at the dormitory, visit lecture halls and really inspire them to go to college,” said Terrance Maiden.
He knows what a struggle it can be. He was raised in Oak Cliff. He said a scholarship helped him get to TCU’s football team.
Last year, the foundation brought 60 students to the campus. This year, more than 120 students attended, including Regann Baucham. The visit motivated the 15-year-old sophomore to stay in school and prepare for college.
“It makes me want to go to college more,” Baucham said, “so when I get older, I won't have to struggle.”
