FORT WORTH — There are security concerns over homecoming activities at Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth.

Students took a letter home to parents Wednesday saying the school had received a threat of harm, and officials do not want to take any chances.

The threatening letters were found Tuesday and Wednesday in the girls' bathroom at the school on the city's west side.

Fort Worth ISD spokesman Clint Bond said anyone could have left them. "These threats were found by students. They were very general in nature; they were not specific," he said.

News of the discovery rocketed around the campus. "We've already had rumors where students are texting their parents and parents are calling wanting to know what's going on," Bond said.

And so on Wednesday, Principal Jason Oliver sent a letter to parents. It says one homecoming activity is being canceled — Thursday's "dress-up day" that would have let students wear costumes to school instead of uniforms.

All other homecoming activities are continuing as originally scheduled.

"I was pretty scared at first," said sophomore Lizzy Michan. "I didn't know what was happening because I didn't know what it was about."

Bond said the district is taking extra steps to make sure everyone is safe. "We're not going to delineate what those steps are, but they're there," he said.

The Fort Worth Police Department is investigating the threatening letters and the district is offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest or conviction of the person or people responsible for the letters.
