DALLAS – Texas is getting some help in caring for pets left homeless in the wake of Hurricane Isaac.
The Humane Society of the United States is giving $5,000 to SPCA shelters in Texas, which took in 266 pets from shelters in Louisiana and Mississippi.
While many animals have been adopted, hundreds of dogs and cats are still in need of a good home and continuing care at the shelter.
McKinney’s Perry Animal Care Center took in 110 cats and 80 dogs from the Louisiana SPCA. The Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center in Dallas took in 65 cats and 25 dogs from the Humane Society of South Mississippi in Gulfport, Miss.
