DALLAS –– Testimony began Thursday morning in the animal cruelty case against Edwon Kumont Julian, the 36-year-old Richardson man accused of assaulting his ex girlfriend and killing her kitten.

Rosa Dismuke told police she was having an argument with Julian on July 31, 2012 when the incident happened.

During opening statements Wednesday, prosecutors said Julian swung the kitten by its tail before throwing it from a second-story window onto the pavement about 20 feet below. The kitten later died of its injuries.

Julian is currently in Dallas County custody on a $41,000 bond, facing assault and felony animal cruelty charges.

Judge Larry Mitchell said the trial will likely finish by Friday, at the latest.

If convicted, Julian faces two-to-20 years in prison, because he has a criminal history. He has a prior conviction for assault.
