A man with ties to North Texas has been chosen to head the Syrian opposition's new interim government.

Ghassan Hitto once helped run Brighter Horizons, an Islamic private school in Garland.

Hitto, a Syrian-born computer specialist, gave a speech in Fort Worth last year saying he would return to his homeland to help the people.

Much remains unknown about the government Hitto will lead, since hundreds of rebel groups are involved in the ongoing Syrian civil war.
