Five days after Kaufman County prosecutor Mark Hasse was gunned down in broad daylight, investigators are still looking for an assailant.

"We are actively reviewing and investigating all credible leads," the Kaufman County Sheriff's office said in a statement issued Tuesday. "A forensics team is actively processing all evidence collected from the crime scene."

Detectives have collected and reviewed any available surveillance video, but they are still looking for additional footage that might provide possible clues.

Hasse was on his way to work at the Kaufman County Courthouse in downtown Kaufman on January 31 when he was approached and shot by one or two assailants dressed in black. They left the scene in what was described as an older model "Taurus-style" sedan, silver or possibly brown.

A reward of more than $70,000 has been established for information leading to the arrest and indictment of anyone involved in this crime. The Kaufman County Crime Stoppers accepts tips by phone at 877-847-7522 or online. Tips can be submitted anonymously.
