DALLAS - The new Klyde Warren Park in downtown Dallas is an oasis in a concrete jungle. The park, set to open Saturday, October 27th, will provide office workers and families an escape from the hustle and bustle of the big city.
"Here in the middle of this gorgeous blue sky and the green green grass you are gonna have a chance to do yoga in a way you might never have experienced," said Dallas Yoga Center's Nicole Payseur of the new deck park built over Woodall Rodgers Freeway.
The park will feature dance too. The Dallas Black Dance Theatre's stage is now the grass and sky. Kayah Franklin is amazed how serene a park sitting on a freeway can be. "To share your art, like dance, in the midst of everything it's amazing," Franklin said.
For those who want something a bit less physical, the park has a gaming room. Celia Barshop, Vice President of Business Affairs for Klyde Warren Park, took News 8 on a walking tour of the park. "The commons is where we will have pavilions that will have permanent table tennis tables and foosball tables," she offered.
For the little ones, there's a secure fenced section of the park. It's small on scale, but promises to be big on fun. "You can crawl up into the crows nest with a story teller," Barshop said. "The kids can crawl up there, sit down, do the criss-cross, applesauce and listen to someone tell them a great story."
Klyde Warren Park is high tech-complete with free wi-fi internet access; or, if you prefer a book in hand, there will be reading racks.
In addition, there's an outdoor performance pavilion, as well as a dog park and plenty of trees and green space. Barshop said "as corny as it sounds, it's a spectacular, spectacular jewel in the crown for Dallas."
