KINGSTON, Okla. — The US Geological Survey recorded a small earthquake in the early hours of Memorial Day near Durant in southern Oklahoma.
The USGS reports the 3.1 magnitude quake was recorded at 1:58 a.m. Monday about 12 miles northwest of Durant, Okla. The area is about 29 miles from Sherman, Texas. The epicenter was near Lake Texoma.
Geologists report that earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 to 3.0 are generally the smallest that are felt by humans and that damage is not usually seen from tremors of below magnitude 4.0.
