Dallas Area Rapid Transit says it expects to begin work early next year on the line that will finally provide a direct rail link to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.

The 5.2-mile extension of the Orange Line will whisk passengers to D/FW's Terminal A from downtown Dallas when it is scheduled to open in December 2014. The line will also connect to all other DART bus and rail services and to the Trinity Railway Express.

Orange Line trains will begin rolling to the Las Colinas Convention Center in Irving starting next July, followed by an extension to Belt Line Station one year from now.

DART says that while the $150 million line to D/FW is being funded locally, the agency will apply for $130 million in federal funds to offset the expense.
