DALLAS — An out-of-control vehicle jumped the curb and crashed into a Southeast Dallas school late Friday night after an attempted robbery turned deadly.
Witnesses said the SUV was going the wrong way in the 100 block of North St. Augustine Road when it crashed into Julius Dorsey Elementary School.
When police arrived, they saw that the two men inside had been shot. One of the victims died later at Baylor Medical Center; the other was reported in critical condition.
Dallas police Senior Cpl. Sherri Jeffrey said the the shooting took place less than a mile away in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 400 block of South St. Augustine Road.
Police are looking for approximately six armed men who had attempted to rob the victims as they pulled in to that parking lot. They drove away after being shot.
The man who died was later identified as 38-year-old Oscar Guevara.
The impact of the SUV left a hole in the brick facade of Dorsey Elementary.
