FORT WORTH — An investigation is under way after Fort Worth police opened fire on a man, killing him.
Police were called to investigate a shooting in the 3000 block of Pecan Street around 10:30 p.m. Saturday. The victim of that shooting was rushed to a hospital; no name or condition was released.
Investigators said a car matching the description of the suspect's was located not far from the crime scene.
But as officers approached that vehicle, the driver sped toward them. Fearing for their safety — and believing that one officer had been struck — police opened fire, hitting the driver, according to a police statement.
The man, identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's office as 22-year-old Sixto Quezada, died at the scene; no officers were injured.
Any officer involved in the shooting was placed on routine administrative leave during the investigation.
