SACHSE — A memorial service was held Saturday for a Texas volunteer firefighter who was killed while fighting the recent wildfires.
Mementos and pictures from Greg Simmons' life were put on display at a Sachse church today. Simmons volunteered with the Sachse department for a decade before moving to Eastland, where he served for the last 11 years.
On Saturday, Carrie Simmons, the firefighters wife, was still thinking about the other men and women who remain on the front lines.
"Pray for all the firefighters and pray that we get rain," she said. "Everybody carry an umbrella, because God is going to send it."
Members of the Wylie Fire Department were on duty in Sachse Saturday so the local fire department could attend the ceremony.
In addition to his wife, Greg Simmons leaves behind two daughters.
