New clues are being uncovered, as police canvass a Rowlett home, determined to find the source of a mysterious stray bullet shot into the back of a father of five.
It's simply a miracle Michael Domin can answer the door.
“They actually cut me open here to look for the bullet. The bullet went through the back and ended up in the pancreas area, so they just cut it open and kinda looked for the bullet," he said.
Three weeks ago, a stray bullet hit him in his back, while he was digging a hole in his backyard.
“I almost died. They say it's a fatal shot that I survived," he said.
Since then, police couldn't figure out where the bullet came from.
“Speculation is now that it did come from the gun range," said Rowlett police spokesperson, John Ellison.
The big break for investigators was a second bullet hole found in Domin's roof.
The owner of Garland's Public Firing Range, which is located less than a mile from the Domins' backyard, declined to comment.
But as the investigation continues, Domin can’t work and he can’t earn a living and he doesn't have disability insurance.
“The church in Rockwell helped pay the electric bill but TXU would not write off $82, although I explained what happened to me,” Domin said.
Domin's wife, special needs triplets and two older daughters, now have to rely on others for help and that is hard for them to do.
“I've never had to do this before, never ask for help. Whatever people can do to help us out, that is all I can say," Domin said.
TXU Energy confirmed a pledge to cover the remaining balance on Domin's bill.
A fund has been set up for the Domins at: American National Bank, 5320 Lakeview Parkway, Rowlett, TX 75088. Attn: Special Fund/ Domin. Checks are to be made payable to Michael and Antoinette Domin.
