VAN ZANDT COUNTY - An SUV filled with a family headed to a water park rolled over Monday afternoon, killing five of the 10 children inside. Texas DPS officials say none of the children were properly secured in the vehicle.

It happened at about 2:15 p.m. along Interstate-20 near Farm-to-Market Road 16, between Canton and Van.

According to KLTV, DPS troopers say the green GMC Envoy rolled off the interstate nearly to the frontage road before stopping upside down.

Five children, ages 13, six, five, three and two, were killed. Two of the surviving children are at Children's Medical Center in Dallas. The other three are in East Texas. The driver and front-seat passenger were taken to a Tyler hospital as a precaution.

Six people were taken to a Tyler Hospital, one of which is in critical condition.

Twelve total people, all related, were in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Nine people were ejected from the vehicle. The owner's manual for the GMC Envoy shows a third row for seating that would allow proper restraints for seven passengers.

The family was reportedly going to visit Splash Kingdom in Canton. Troopers have not identified any of the dead or injured.
