DESOTO - An auditorium at DeSoto's Faith Bible Church has been converted into the first Red Cross shelter in North Texas for Tropical Storm Issac evacuees.

The Red Cross opened the shelter Monday night so any evacuees arriving overnight would have a safe place to stay. As of early Tuesday morning, no one was at the shelter. Church officials believe that could change as Issac approaches the Gulf Coast and more people evacuate.

The shelter provided 100 cots and a separate room equipped with cribs for families with younger children.

Faith Bible Church has been preparing for a disaster for four years, setting up a mock shelter every year.  Now, they're prepared for the real thing.

The shelter will remain open until it's no longer needed.
