DALLAS - The Salvation Army got a big surprise after opening an envelope inside a red kettle.
The card was dropped into a kettle outside a hardware store off Maple Avenue. Inside the card was a coin. However, it wasn't just any gold coin; it was a South African Krugerrand.
"You never think it's going to happen to you," said Lt. Patrick Jones, Salvation Army. "You expect to hear about it in some other city in the U.S. It's terrific to have it happen here in Dallas."
The coin is a rare collector's item. The value of the coin can differ depending on the price of gold, but it's estimated to be worth $1,400.
