The welcome rain was coming down so hard Friday night that some areas of North Texas were flooded.

In Irving, several lanes of Loop 12 at Highway 183 near the old Texas Stadium were closed due to high water. Police directed drivers around the trouble spots.

In another weather-related incident, southbound Interstate 35E near Northwest Highway was closed for nearly four hours after a utility pole was struck by lightning.

Workers were forced to close all lanes of the busy highway because the pole was unstable and it was feared it could topple on traffic.

Live power lines were hanging precariously close to the road.

Drivers were forced to exit at Walnut Hill Lane and traffic was backed up for several miles while the potentially dangerous situation was stabilized.
