FRISCO - An 18-year-old Frisco High School senior is back home with her family after she went missing Friday night, spurring a frantic search for the teen.
Bethany Stroud told police she was kidnapped at gunpoint from a Frisco parking lot and forced to drive all the way to Muskogee, Oklahoma against her will.
While Frisco police have released few details, they described the incident as an "isolated case" in which they have found no evidence linking it to the Dr Pepper Arena, where Stroud works as a ticket-taker and claimed she was taken by force.
Frisco investigators released a vague suspect description on Monday, but further details were not given.
News 8 spoke with police in Muskogee, Oklahoma today. Cpl. Pedro Zardeneta said one of their supervisors was the one who answered the 911 call from Stroud Saturday night. She called from a Braum's restaurant in that city, borrowing a cell phone from someone to call and report she was okay.
Police said they took her into protective custody until Frisco police arrived at 2 a.m. Sunday to drive her back to her home, where she was reunited with her family.
Zardeneta said the case is now in the hands of Frisco police, and any search for a suspect is their call. The Muskogee corporal said the last he knew, Stroud had told police that she was kidnapped at gunpoint against her will and was "left somewhere in Oklahoma" before being able to escape in her own car, driving herself to Braum's where she called police.
News 8 spoke to Stroud's father at the family's Frisco home Sunday. He said his daughter has a bruised left cheek, but is otherwise okay physically. He's calling what happened a "personal matter."
Today is President's Day, a recognized holiday in Texas. Frisco police have not responded to any questions about the case and the public information officers have not returned phone calls or emails.
