DALLAS — Dallas commuters, get ready to hit the brakes — a big chunk of LBJ Freeway is getting a major makeover starting Sunday.
Construction congestion will endure on-and-off over the next five years.
The $2 billion project will completely rebuild LBJ — also known as Interstate 635 — between I-35E and North Central Expressway.
When the work is finished, LBJ will have four free lanes in each direction and three "managed" toll lanes underneath the highway.
The project will nearly double the capacity of the freeway.
