DALLAS — Classmates and family members paid tribute to Javar Smith on Saturday evening.
He's the 14-year-old student from the Learning Alternative Center who was found dead in a creek near campus on Tuesday.
Some mourners wore white T-shirts with the legend, "Rest in Peace, Javar Smith" as they held hands and prayed on Saturday.
Javar and a friend walked away from school on Monday. His body was discovered the next day in Five Mile Creek. The friend had told a relative that Javar went into the water and didn't come out, but his story was disregarded.
Dallas police are still talking with witnesses and trying to piece together what happened last Monday.
