PLANO -- Murder charges have been filed against a man accused of driving drunk into a group of pedestrians in a parking lot, hitting four people and leaving the scene.
The Plano Police Department said on Tuesday that it served murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon warrants to Benjamin Kevin Newman, 22.
On April 17, Newman was driving drunk when he hit a group of people in the Hangout Patio Bar and Grill parking lot, police said.
Four people were sent to local hospitals. One of them, Christopher Ryan Brigman, 23, died from his injuries on April 20.
Newman drove away from the scene, investigators said, but police caught him a short time later. He was initially charged with driving while intoxicated and causing an accident involving injury.
Newman is in the Collin County Detention Center with $200,000 in bonds.
