PLANO — “My babies!” Those were the words responding firefighters heard upon arriving at the scene of a fire Thursday afternoon at a Plano duplex.

Firefighters were called to the residences after a car fire spread to a second vehicle and the garage of the nearby duplex.

According to Capt. Peggy Harrell, Fire Apparatus Operator Randy Wood was in the midst of evacuating a woman and her toddler when she told him her twin babies were still inside the home.

“Wood entered the smoke-filled home and searched a few rooms before finding the twins asleep in a back bedroom,” Harrell said. “He carried both babies from the house as smoke became thicker.”

The children and their mother were reunited outside as firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze.

Everyone in both sides of the duplex escaped injury.
