FORT WORTH — The Allied Pilots Association, representing the 8,000 pilots who work for American Airlines, agreed Tuesday to resume contract talks with the bankrupt carrier.

After the union rejected American's "last, best offer" on revised terms in September, a bankruptcy court judge permitted the airline to void the existing pact and impose its own terms.

American has since been dealing with increasing delays and a reduced flight schedule, while blaming pilots for conducting what it called "an unlawful, concerted effort to damage the company" by filing maintenance complaints and flying circuitous routes.

There has been no announcement about when talks between American and its pilots will resume.
