Pilot makes emergency landing on Arlington highway

ARLINGTON -- A pilot made an emergency landing on a highway flyover during the evening rush hour late Friday afternoon.

The pilot was flying with a banner in southwest Arlington when he noticed that his single-engine Cessna lost oil pressure, according to a spokesman from the Federal Aviation Administration.

The pilot cut the banner loose and navigated the plane onto the ramp of Interstate 20 and U.S. Highway 287 shortly before 5 p.m.

During the landing, the plane hit a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle went to the hospital, but authorities did not immediately say how severely he was hurt.

The banner was found in a backyard in a nearby neighborhood.

The pilot was not hurt.
