Pedestrian struck
DALLAS — Authorities continue their search for a burglary suspect after one of four suspects was struck and killed by a vehicle while attempting to cross the northbound lanes of Interstate 35E near Royal Lane Tuesday night.
Police said it all started when they received a 911 call around 9 p.m. about a break-in at an office in the 2400 block of Valley View Lane in Farmers Branch. The witness said she saw the robbery take place and was following the suspects' vehicle, a red van.
Farmers Branch police caught up with the van in bumper-to-bumper traffic traveling southbound on I-35E. When progress came to a halt, three of the four suspects jumped out of the vehicle. One was nabbed, but two others tried crossing the wall in the median separating southbound and northbound traffic.
One of those suspects was struck and killed on the highway; the other remained at large early Wednesday morning. The Dallas County Sheriff's Department said the suspect who was fatally struck did not have identification on him.
A person who remained inside the van was also taken into custody. No identities were released.
All northbound traffic was diverted from the freeway during the investigation that followed the incident, resulting in a major traffic backup.
