DALLAS - One of two primary parking garages serving the Dallas County Criminal Courts building was declared structurally unstable and has been closed for the time being.

Officials say the closure, on the east side of Riverfront Drive, was ordered late yesterday and the ensuing confusion has caused some delays in court proceedings Wednesday.

"It was chaos," said attorney Pat Robertson. "They're going to have to do something about it. I don't know where they're going to park."

Director of Dallas County Operations Chris Thompson said the closure was ordered after engineers discovered cracks in structural beams requiring further investigation and repair. He said the structure may be closed through the end of next week.

In the meantime, court employees and visitors should arrive early and use surface pay lots around the courthouse.
