FORT WORTH -- A mother and her 22-month-old baby were killed after Thursday they were trapped in a vehicle that crashed into a pond near 6100 East Loop 820 and Collett Little Road in Fort Worth.

The woman and her baby could not be rescued by two bystanders who jumped in the water, nor by responding officers. The dive team was called in to pull the mother and child from the vehicle.

The mother's 911 emergency call, released by the city of Forest Hill on Friday, lasts about two minutes. The audio recording is too graphic to post in its entirety.

The mother tells the dispatcher that she and her daughter are trapped inside the car as it sinks to the bottom of the pond. She tries to break the window, but the call ends with her saying, "I can't do this."

Emergency officials performed CPR on the baby and mother at the scene. The two were then taken to local hospitals, where they were later pronounced dead. It is believed the woman and child were under water for more than a half-hour.

The car went through a fence into the pond after an accident. Forest Hill police dispatch was reportedly talking to the woman in the car just before it went into the water.

The crash is under investigation. It's not clear whether another driver was at fault.

The names of the victims have not been released.
