DALLAS – For thousands of North Texans, Thanksgiving morning was a time to meet up, slap on a number and take a jog.
In Dallas, an estimated 40,000 runners snaked through downtown for the 45th annual Turkey Trot. Last year, participants set a world record for the largest amount of people dressed as turkeys.
That event began and ended at Dallas City Hall and featured an 8-mile and a 5K trot. Proceeds go toward helping fund YMCA youth programs.
In Fort Worth, the YMCA-sponsored Turkey Trot started at Camp Bowie Blvd. and extended in a rectangle south to Sunset and back again. Last year, more than 13,000 attendees participated.
Frisco also held an event, allowing participants to jog a 5K a 10K or a 1-mile course near FC Dallas Stadium.
And, as in Dallas and Fort Worth, runners were encouraged to don a ‘Thanksgiving costume’ as they ran for the good cause. Take a look at our photo slideshow to the right from this morning’s event in Dallas.
