DALLAS -- Southern Methodist University was given the all clear after a possible gas leak led to an evacuation of several buildings in the northeast quadrant of the campus in the 3000 block of Dyer Street at Airline Road.

The university sent out alerts warning of the evacuation via their official site and Twitter page around 9:23 a.m.

The Dawson Service Center, the Service House and the Embrey Engineering Building were evacuated as a precaution, as were several fraternity houses and neighborhood residences.

While school officials asked people to avoid the area, operation resumed back to normal after the all clear was given around 11:17 p.m.

Atmos Energy representatives said there was never a gas leak in the area, and were unsure where the smell of gas was coming from.
