TARRANT COUNTY  -- A man on a motorcycle who was leading a funeral procession on the border of Fort Worth and Forest Hill Saturday afternoon was fatally injured after being struck by a car.

MedStar said the man was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital with critical injuries after being hit by a red car and thrown from the bike at about 1:15 p.m. in the 3300 block of Mansfield Highway.

A witness told News 8 the car pulled out in front of the funeral procession. She said she and another woman performed CPR on the victim until paramedics arrived.

The motorcyclist died at the hospital. Family members and the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's office identified him as James Darrell Wiggs, 58, of North Richland Hills. Information on his Facebook page indicates that Wiggs was an electronics engineer and a military veteran.

The driver of the car and a passenger were also taken to a hospital for treament, but their injuries were not said to be serious.

The Forest Hill Police Department is leading the investigation into the cause of the accident.
