CROWLEY -- A mother has been arrested for allegedly driving under the influence after four children were injured while riding on the trunk of the woman's car.
Police say Kisha Young, 38, and another mom, along with their six kids, ages 8 to 14, were in a vehicle as they headed back from a neighborhood pool about a quarter-mile away from Young's home.
According to Crowley police, the children were being allowed to ride home on the trunk because of their wet bathing suits after swimming at Crowley Creekside Community pool around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
"The children were riding on the trunk and hood of the vehicle because they were wet," said Officer CC Meadows with Crowley Police. "So they had wet clothing and apparently they didn’t want to get the inside of the vehicle wet."
The four children riding on the trunk of the car were hurt after falling off of the vehicle on Angler Drive.
Police say three of the kids have been released from a local hospital. A 12-year-old daughter of the mom in the passenger seat, who may also face charges, has a serious head injury and remains in the care of doctors at Cook Children's Hospital in Fort Worth.
Family at Young's home in Crowley had no comment Wednesay afternoon. Young remains behind bars awaiting arraignment. Officers say she could face additional charges.
According to our content partners at the Star-Telegram, police suspect driver inattention and alcohol as factors into what caused the children to fall off the trunk.
